DRUMMER
•Main contents/ features are linked to images.
•Effective use of typography connotes instruments/ music.
•Main feature image dominates page and conveys magazine genre.
•Organised layout/ sophisticated.
•Subverts
•Rock conventions.
•Widening Target audience appeal
The main contents and features are linked to the images, making the page still remain informative to an extent but also seem much more appealing to look at, rather than the page just being dominated by text and seem rather dull.
The theme of drums is also portrayed strongly throughout the page, where we see an image of a drum right beside the logo, and we also see the main cover artists and other artists within the magazine on drum sets, creating a powerful brand identity for the magazine.
Effective use of typography is used to connote instruments and music, as the letters are very big, fat, thick, and tight together giving off the effects of rock music, being very loud and ‘in your face’.
We also see the main feature image dominating and conveying the magazine genre, as we see the stereotype of rock music, with a person fitting to the culture on a set of drum sets that would generally; instantly scream ‘Rock Music’ to anyone, however being specifically appealing and engaging to a person who meets the convention of the target audience.
The layout is very organised, with a pattern of where exactly the images and text will go, showing strong levels of sophistication. However this may somewhat contradict itself, as rock is a type of music that may not be meant to show organisation and sophistication, but to give off different effects and a different theme instead.
The use of subverts are also effective as they help to widen the target audience appeal, as even if the person who is reading the magazine may not be interested or particularly like the cover artist(s) at all, they may still hold strong interest with the other artists within the magazine who are shown within the subverts.
Rock conventions being shown within the page also creates heavy and strong brand identity, as these are in a way, the main events of what the music is about therefore always staying true to the genre.
